Severne Gator Windsurfing Sail 2009
Severne Gator Agressive Freeride Windsurfing Sail 09
Gator Severne Agressive Freeride Windsurfing Sail
This Year we have been keeping the 6.5M model in stock, currently we have this sail available in each colour.
At our school, Blue Lagoon, Pattaya, Thailand we are using 6.0,6.5,7.5 and 8.0M Gator sails. We find them to be very durrable and light and easy to use. They also have good low end power and the smaller sizes can be trimmed flat for high wind days also.
This sail is used as the tough high wind sail and storm sail. It has great range and works well with boards from 100L to 135L.
Amara and I have been sailing with Gators since the 2007, when Severne started making them with lots of shape providing good forward drive in light wind. My first sail got punished in one of the best storm seasons I have seen and it is still hanging in our rack and getting used regularly, with all but one original panal.
We have Gators from 2006 that are still showing no signs of UV damage. apart from fading of the Dacron mast sleeve matarial.
Severne were the leaders in experimenting with and even designing new sail materials, they currently use 10 different kinds of material, each with unique properties that are ideally placed into the sail for a specific purpose.
This Sail is a Full X-ply Sail - making it tough and extremely UV stable. It also gives the sail a soft feel that absorbes gusts and provides smooth accelaration.

PERFORMANCE
The Gator feels pretty balanced in the hands at low speeds, developing power smoothly and early; it is pumpable
with a soft feel rather than being grunty. Once up to speed it feels balanced, offering smooth usable power. Drive
comes from slightly lower and behind the rider, encouraging a comfortable freeride position. As gusts and lulls
come through, the sail responds well with drive remaining stable and constant. When the wind increases, the
Severne demonstrates an excellent natural range, the leech working effectively while much of the clatter from a
harsh sea state is absorbed to retain an easy feel. Only when really overpowered does it gently tug on the back
arm, but with a little downhaul and outhaul the range can be increased even further. Easy to reposition after
tacks with little camber and a balanced feel, the 3D padding beneath the boom cut out may be awkward for sail-
ors who hold the mast when tacking. In gybes the sail offers smooth power into the turn that is easily dumped,
the sail and battens rotating cleanly with a reduced boom length and the power coming on smoothly for clean
exits.
(+)
A very well designed and built sail that demonstrates a superb natural range, user friendly appeal and ease of
use with balance during transitions
(-)
The 3D padding on the luff tube, although useful for impact protection, can be awkward for sailors who use the
mast when tacking
