NCX Windsurfing Sail 2011
• No-cam, high-speed Freeride sail. • Monofilm construction for a crisp response. • Emphasis is on an extremely balanced sail, with built in shock-absorbing properties to allow the rider to maintain a comfortable stance through gusts and chop, and provide a huge wind range
NEW FOR 2011:• Race program developments have been implemented into the NCX shaping with input from Bjoern Dunkerbeck and Steve Allen
• Tighter skin tension for increased stability and rig movement over chop • Wider wind range with the head and upper leech engaged, providing more bottom end. Due to increased tension, when the wind increases the mid and lower leech opens providing control in stronger winds

WIND MAG March 2011 – Special Test 2011 FREERACE, FREERIDE/FREEWAVE, WAVE
SEVERNE NCX 7.0 (2011)
Design
A breakthrough in design, directly from Severne Race sails. The 2011 NCX has a hi- performance definition, in spite of the no cam design.
NCX is also available in a “Pro” op- tion that is built using lighter and more reactive ma- terials for an increase in performance.
Riding
Very light but with a remarkably strong construction and high quality fittings. With a very good tack pul- ley, it’s a very easy sail to rig.
The light feeling is highly interesting and fun for a 7.0 rig. The sail sets a powerful shape, deepest near the bottom which settles it comfortably on the deck. Nothing moves and disturbs you. You feel a direct and quick acceleration without any effort. Sta- ble and super easy on the arms, the NCX generates speed by itself. This type of rig makes sailing as easy as possible but at the same time gives a very high level of performance. The performance aspect is not inconvenient for fun, but gives a positive accel-
eration to the board, as if the power were pulling directly through the mast foot without pulling through the rider arms at all!
It’s the wind range where the NCX reminds us of a cam race sail. Clearly the speediest sail of the test! The more the wind builds, the more the speed increases. And the more the wind builds... the more the sail stays cool and easy! The fastest of the test with maximum control in high winds. The shape doesn’t move at all and the feeling remains easy, even in strong gusts. If you shut your eyes, you can imagine a cambered sail in feeling, but easier for gybes and tacks, helped by the ultra lightness of the rig.
Verdict
The performance and shape of the 011 NCX are very near that of a cambered sail without the incon- venience of cams. You get all the qualities, ease and advantages of a no cam sail, rigging and sailing. Then, it’s so fast, reactive and light that absolutely all the riders of the testing team were highly im- pressed by the Severne sail, whatever their weight or level. No problem to sail on a high performance freerace board.
+ : Performance, acceleration, top end speed, stability of shape, ease of use
- : Nothing.
