Starboard Carve Windsurfing Board

Starboard Carve Windsurfing Board

The new Carve 2010/2011. The classic freeriders are back, with their famous blend of easy, exciting and balanced performance.

The Carves are about fast, easy jibes and exhilarating rides. They offer a more classic, accessible feel with a quick, easy carving response and that special magic-touch ride that has made their fame.

Plug n' play.

A classic freerider by design A generous deck dome offers plenty of ergonomic comfort - whether inboard or outboard strap settings are used. These strap settings are positioned to mix performance, comfort and accessibility.

The shapes' classic vee distribution, with more vee in the tail and less in the front, their even volume distribution and added nose length, all contribute to the classic riding feel with extra longitudinal balance at lower speeds.

DFC (Dual Flat Concept) rockerline offer straight line speed with a lively and exciting ride. The new Carve tail design also packs some extra volume to add jibing forgiveness: it helps the rider float out of the maneuver without sinking too fast.

Construction: Three sizes are available, in two technologies: 121, 131 and 141 litres; Wood and Tufskin AST.

At Amara Watersports we have been testing this board in each size. For lighter wind destinations it is brilliant. Giving that small board handling and feel in a package that planes early and will hold a bigger sail. The 121 is great, even in strong wind and bigger seas, she just wants to be pushed harder. Great for popping chop hops and playing with the wind swells. We totally recommend this board.

New Freeride Power fin (131, 141): relatively thick and stiff, the Freeride Power is very powerful and allows the rider to drive off the fin to accelerate. The fin planes up effortlessly and keeps its power in the lulls. The reduced flex also translates into more control in rough water conditions or high winds, as the fin will help keep the board flat. The fin on the 121 is the 38cm Powerglide, and it is perfect with sails from 6.5 to 8.0M

The Wood Models feature a protective film to keep the Wood finish looking as new year after year.

FAST, REACTIVE AND VERY FUN!

Shape

New for the summer, the Starboard Carve is back among the Tiki's range after a few years of absence. Compared to the Futura, it is longer and less wide for the same volume. The shape is thicker and more slender. And like all Starboard boards, the equipment is top notch quality.

On the Water
From the very first moments on the Starboard Carve, we feel a good tracking performance from the fin and the rails of the board. This is probably from the thickness of the board. This tracking performance allows the boards to go upwind easily but also gives you the resources to get planing. The Carve gets going actually nicely and becomes reactive after that. The strap position is sweet, the trim of the board is stable and you are nicely locked-in. It's a board with a sporty character and sharp, without being difficult. Incisive under your feet, she's fast and flies over chop with ample control. It's not a board that flies out of control. The board will remain reactive enough to maneuver and adapt to the rider's chosen trajectory through chop, although it remains less reactive to the JP. On the other hand, the accelerations are rather fast, which indicates some rather interesting top-end performance limits. The jibe is easy, stable and reactive. Like it name indicates, it really carves.

Conclusion
A bit more technical than the average in this group because of its width, the Starboard Carve is without doubt the one of those that are the most fun and with the highest potential for evolution. We recommend this board particularly for riders who are looking for boards that are planing fast. The Carve is accessible and nervous at the same time, great for tracking long reaches in a bay area, jump of chop and carve out beautiful jibes.
